Helping teachers maintain accreditation

Teachers maintaining their mandatory Proficient Teacher Accreditation, or choosing to pursue higher levels of accreditation, must actively be responsible for pursuing their accreditation. But they rely on principals and supervisors to provide support – particularly around monitoring completion of professional development (PD) requirements and confirming ongoing achievements of the Standards through verifying maintenance reports.

Monitoring PD

As a principal or PD delegate you can monitor a teacher’s progress in meeting PD requirements by logging into your own online account. You will have access to PD records of teachers who have identified that they work in your school. You should ensure that teachers are working towards a professional learning plan to meet these requirements through the maintenance period. More about planning and validating PD

Verifying maintenance reports

Towards the end of every ‘maintenance of accreditation’ cycle, accredited teachers need to write a Maintenance of Accreditation Report. This report is submitted to the Teacher Accreditation Authority (TAA) or their delegate (generally the school principal) for authorisation 3 months before the end of their maintenance period. The TAA or principal authorises the accredited teacher’s ongoing achievement of the Standards and completion of PD requirements by signing the report and providing a copy to the accredited teacher and BOSTES.

From 4 January 2016, BOSTES is introducing an online process for verifying and subimtting Maintenance of Accreditation Reports.
