Write and submit your final report
When you approach the end of the maintenance cycle, you need to write and submit a Maintenance of Accreditation Report at Lead Teacher Level. This report should demonstrate how your teaching practice has continued to reflect the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers over the period of your maintenance cycle.
- From 4 January 2016, BOSTES is introducing an online process for developing and submitting your Maintenance of Accreditation Report.
- The report is written by you and should be completed and given to your Teacher Accreditation Authority (TAA) or your principal for verification between 3 and 6 months before the end of your maintenance period.
- Your TAA or principal will make the accreditation decision on the basis of your ongoing achievement of the Standards, sign the report, and then provide a copy to you and to the Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards (BOSTES).
- If required, your principal or TAA may return the Report with advice to amend and re-submit.
Tips for writing your report
What is the purpose of the Maintenance of Highly Accomplished Teacher (MLT) Report?
The MLT Report provides an opportunity for you to describe the ways that your teaching practice has continued to demonstrate the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APSTs) at Lead Teacher during your maintenance period. It complements your PD Progress Report. No further documentation is required.
How much do I write?
Between 200 and 300 words for each of the seven Standards.
What do I write?
Include specific examples of your practice as a Lead Teacher, and the impact of your teaching practice and leadership, where possible. A single example may show how you meet one or more Standard Descriptors.
You should address each of the Standard Descriptors, though there is no need to cover every part of every Standard Descriptor.
Do I write about my PD in my MLT Report?
You can. If you write about PD in the Report, it might be in the context of PD you have designed and/or delivered for colleagues, or how you have implemented your learning from PD to improve your teaching practice and your leadership.
How can I make claims about what I have done and the impact of my practice on student learning outcomes and colleagues when there is no documentary evidence or referee statements to validate them?
The Principal’s signature on the MLT Report is the validation that the practice and leadership described, and the outcomes achieved, are accurate. If your TAA (A/L) needs to further validate any of the Report’s content, they can contact your Principal.

To use the online process:
- Log into your online account. You will need your username and password
- Click on the 'Teacher' tab and then on the ‘Maintenance of Accreditation Report’ button
- Write your Maintenance of Accreditation Report demonstrating how your classroom practice has continued to reflect the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers over the period of your maintenance cycle
- Click the ‘Save as Draft’ button at the bottom of the page to save and return to the writing the report later
- Once complete, click the ‘Save and Submit’ button to send it to your principal and TAA
